Not long back I had a retired Pastor reprove me very sharply, for
making some interesting points while preaching on the death, burial and
resurrection of Jesus. He was very old school, and he referred to 1 Tim
1.4 "nor to be taken up with with myths and never ending genealogies.. "
I quietly and respectfully asked him if I had said anything that was heretical or inappropriate to which he answered. "No".
I explained that this Scripture was never meant to exclude genuine
enquiry into the Bible, but rather it was targeting the false
philosophy of Gnosticism. But he would not have it.
This was a pastor who had laboured in the gospel of 40 years and yet he
did not understand about Gnosticism and the problems that Paul spoke of
in this passage.
A congregation is not going to have much hope of understanding these things if the Pastor does not.

If the many pastors persist in preaching, lightweight and shallow
messages to the congregation, the results will always be a people, who

It seems that the most important thing is, that we are very positive
and ‘nice’ to everybody. It's just too bad, if God's people

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his

him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.
: And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return
to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou
there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young
child to destroy him.
: When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by

: And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be

called a Nazarene.
: In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the
wilderness of Judaea,
: And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
: For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias,
saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye
the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
: And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a
leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and
wild honey.
: Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the
region round about Jordan,
: And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
: But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to
his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who
hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
: Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
: And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our
father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones
to raise up children unto Abraham.
: And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees:
therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is
hewn down, and cast into the fire.
: I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that
cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not
worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and
with fire:
: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his
floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn
up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
: Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be
baptized of him.
: But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of
thee, and comest thou to me?
: And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for
thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he
suffered him.
: And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of
the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he
saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting
upon him:
: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in
whom I am well pleased.
: Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be
tempted of the devil.
: And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was

rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
: Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first
be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy

: Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way
with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the
judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be
cast into prison.
: Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out
thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

not commit adultery:
: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust
after her hath committed adultery with her already in his

give her a writing of divorcement:

time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto

: But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for
it is God's throne:
: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by
Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
: Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not
make one hair white or black.
: But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for
whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
: Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a
tooth for a tooth:
: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever
shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other
also.
: And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy
coat, let him have thy cloak also.
: And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him
twain.
: Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow
of thee turn not thou away.
: Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy
neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which
despitefully use you, and persecute you;
