He listened as I asked, if I had said anything that was of heresy, and he said. "No".
I explained that this Scripture was never meant to exclude genuine enquiry into the Bible, but rather it was targeting the false philosophy of Gnosticism. But he would not have it.
Gnosticism had been so influential in the new Testament times and the new Testament writings, how could a pastor of 40 years experience not know this.
Where does this leave a congregation, how can they possibly understand about these things if the Pastor does not know?

It is so sad to see so many Pastors preaching messages that are shallow and light weight, so that the congregation barely grow in real Bible understanding.
Preachers love to give to us ‘moral essays’ and ‘warming affirmations’ because, supposedly, if we truly 'love' others this is what we will do.
Well, it's unfortunate for God, if his people are falling through the cracks ‘for a lack of knowledge’ (oracle), the most important thing is that we are ‘nice’ to each other.
Thinking about it, the more 'relevant' we all become, to the world, the less relevant we christians are to tell the truth, to the world. :-o
