Recently I was preaching on the death and resurrection of Jesus, and a retired pastor - a strong preacher of the gospel, and he had been for 40 years, came up and reproved me smartly over some interesting points I made and he referred to 1 Tim 1:4 "..don't waste time on silly stories and never-ending lists of ansectors.. "
He listened as I asked, if I had said anything that was of heresy, and he said. "No".
I continued on to explain that that particular Scripture was not referring to exploring Bible but to the false teachings and philosophy of Gnosticism, but he would not have it.
I wondered how a preacher, who has laboured in the gospel 40 years could not understand about something that perhaps half the books of the new Testament refer to?
It is important for Pastors to know these things, and to teach their congregation in order that they might understand and interpret their Bible reasonably.

Hmmm, the more 'relevant' we christians become, to the world, the less relevant christians are in fact, to the world. :o
