Respectfully I asked him if there was anything in what I was teaching that was heretical in any way. He said, "No".
I then quietly asserted that that Scripture was referring to the false teachings of Gnosticism and not of honest enquiry of Scripture, but it would not accept.
You would think that with 40 years experience, this pastor would have had some understanding of what Paul was referring to in this letter and the problem of Gnosticism.
How can a congregation rightly divide the Word if they are not taught about these things?

When all 12 Apostles were not only prepared to be a martyr but all but one was, it is a tangible proof of the existence of Jesus Christ and His work and ministry - so many would not suffer and die for a dead fake.
So many Pastors these days continue preaching lightweight and shallow messages, and the congregation simply cannot grow in Bible understanding and interpretation skills.
Continually we hear ‘moral essays’ and ‘warming affirmations’ supposedly, this is what we will do, if we truly 'love' one another.
The consequence - if God's people are falling through the cracks ‘for a lack of knowledge’ (oracle), that's just too bad, the most important thing seems to be that we are ‘nice’ to each other.
Hmmm, the more 'relevant' we become, to the world, the less relevant christians are actually, to the world. :(
