It was a little disconcerting recently when I was sharply corrected by an old retired pastor. I had been preaching on the death burial and resurrection of Jesus, and I made some interesting observations, and he quoted this Scripture 1Tim 1:4 "..don't waste time on fables and endless genealogies.."

I tried to quietly reason with him that this Scripture was not concerning honest enquiry of the Bible, but of the false teachings of Gnosticism. But he would not accept it.
Possibly half the books of the new Testament refer to Gnosticism, how can a pastor with 40 years experience not understand this?
