He answered "No", when I asked him if I had said anything that was heretical.
I tried to quietly reason with him that this Scripture was not concerning honest enquiry of the Bible, but of the false teachings of Gnosticism. But he would not accept it.
How can a pastor with 40 years of experience not know about something so influential in the new Testament writings?
A Pastor needs to take the time to learn these kinds of things and teach the congregation so that the congregation can understand and interpret their Bible well.

If the many pastors persist in preaching, lightweight and shallow messages to the congregation, the results will always be a people who do not understand their Bible very well.
Preachers love to give to us ‘moral essays’ and ‘warming affirmations’ because, supposedly, if we truly 'love' others this is what we will do.
Well it's just too bad if Christians are falling through the cracks ‘for a lack of knowledge’ (oracle) as long as we are very positive and ‘nice’ to everybody.
Soooo, the more 'relevant' we become, to the world, the less relevant we christians are actually, to the world. :(
