I had been preaching on the death burial and resurrection of Jesus, and I made some interesting observations, and he quoted this Scripture 1Tim 1:4 "nor to occupy themselves with myths and endless genealogies.. "
He listened as I asked, if I had said anything that was of heresy, and he said. "No".
I went on to quietly explain that that particular Scripture was referring to the false teachings and philosophy of Gnosticism, not of genuine enquiry. He could not accept it.
You would think that with 40 years experience, this pastor would have had some understanding of what Paul was referring to in this letter and the problem of Gnosticism.
How then, can the congregation hope to understand these things and be able to understand and interpret their Bible?
