"
He was to answer "No" when I asked him if I had said anything of a heretical nature.
I tried to reason with him in respectful way that this Scripture was referring to Gnosticism and its false philosophy, it should not be read that genuine enquiry into Scripture is wrong. He looked unsure, but would not accept it.
Gnosticism had been so influential in the new Testament times and the new Testament writings, how could a pastor of 40 years experience not know this.
A congregation is not going to have much hope of understanding these things if the Pastor does not.

It is so sad to see so many Pastors preaching messages that are shallow and light weight, so that the congregation barely grow in real Bible understanding.
We are continually fed 'moral essays' and 'warming affirmations' by our pastors, for this is what we will do if we truly 'love' each other, supposedly.
Where is our focus? It seems that it's just too bad if God's people are falling through the cracks, ‘for a lack of knowledge’ (oracle), after all He wants us to be ‘nice’ to everybody.
Think about it, the more 'relevant' we all become, to the world, the less relevant christians are in reality, to the world. :-(
