I tried to reason with him in respectful way that this Scripture was referring to Gnosticism and its false philosophy, it should not be read that genuine enquiry into Scripture is wrong. He looked unsure, but would not accept it.
Possibly half the books of the new Testament refer to Gnosticism, how can a pastor with 40 years experience not understand this?
How then, can the congregation hope to understand these things and be able to understand and interpret their Bible?
