Imagine my surprise, recently when a retired pastor of 40 years sharply corrected me for making some interesting observations when preaching about the death burial and resurrection of Jesus, and he used a Scripture, 1 Tim 1.4 "nor to be taken up with with myths and never ending genealogies.. "
Respectfully I asked him if there was anything in what I was teaching that was heretical in any way. He said, "No".
I tried to quietly reason with him that this Scripture was not concerning honest enquiry of the Bible, but of the false teachings of Gnosticism. But he would not accept it.
How can a pastor with 40 years of experience not know about something so influential in the new Testament writings?
How can a congregation rightly divide the Word if they are not taught about these things?
One more Interesting Fact -
A priest began his role at age 30 years old. A levite his at 25 years.
Unfortunately, so many Pastors are persistent in preaching lightweight and shallow messages, and the congregation does not grow in Bible understanding and interpretation.
Preachers continually preach 'moral essays' and 'warming affirmations', because this is what we'll do, if we truly 'love' each other, supposedly.
Apparently, it doesn't really matter if God's people are falling through the cracks ‘for a lack of knowledge’ (oracle), as long as we are positive and ‘nice’ to everybody.
Ohhhh, the more 'relevant' we become, to the world, the less relevant we christians are in point of fact, to the world. :<
