I had been preaching on the death burial and resurrection of Jesus, and I made some interesting observations, and he quoted this Scripture 1 Tim 1.4 "nor to be taken up with with myths and never ending genealogies.. "
I asked him if he thought I had said anything that was of a heretical nature, to which he answered, "No".
I explained that this Scripture was never meant to exclude genuine enquiry into the Bible, but rather it was targeting the false philosophy of Gnosticism. But he would not have it.
I wondered how a preacher, who has laboured in the gospel 40 years could not understand about something that perhaps half the books of the new Testament refer to?
Where does this leave a congregation, how can they possibly understand about these things if the Pastor does not know?
